Today we talk with Maria-Christina Zennaro, a Research Professor at the French National Institute of Health and Medical Research (Inserm). She is the head of the team “Genetic mechanisms of aldosterone related disorders” at INSERM, the Paris Cardiovascular Research Center, and University of Paris. She is also an associated investigator at the Genetics Department of the European Hospital Georges Pompidou in Paris, France. Maria-Christina is coordinator of the EU-funded Horizon 2020 research and innovation project ENS@T-HT, and partner of the Horizon 2020 MINDSHIFT project. She is very active in many societies, where she is president of the European Section of Aldosterone council (ESAC)-France, a member of the Executive Committee of the International Aldosterone Conference and the European Council on Cardiovascular Research between other appointments. And of interest to us today, Maria Christina has played a major role in the career development of many young researchers, and we are excited to hear all about her mentoring experiences today.

Today we talk with Professor Thomas Unger, Emeritus Professor of Pharmacology and Experimental Medicine at CARIM Maastrich University, Netherlands. Prof Unger was the Scientific Director of the CARIM Maastrich University, the Director of the Institute of Pharmacology, and the Founding Director of the Centre for Cardiovascular Research at the Charite Institution in Berlin. At the International Society of Hypertension, Thomas chaired the ISH Guidelines Committee and chaired the Organizing Committee for the ISH Scientific Meeting in Beijing 2018; and currently is a member of ISH Council and chair of the Corporate Liaison Committee. Most important to us today, Thomas was a key figure in the creation of an innovative training network supported by the European Commission called MINDSHIFT, which is a European Joint Doctorate programme, combining scientific research with in-depth professional and transferable skill training.

Prof Beheiry is a former Dean of the Faculty of Nursing Sciences and former Vice-Dean of the Faculty of Medicine at the International University of Africa. She has served as the president of the Sudanese Society of Hypertension and is part of the Sudan Branch of the Arab Economic Unity Council.
