Professor Nishiyama has served on several committees including the Japanese Society of Hypertension, the Japanese Society of Nephrology, the International Society of Nephrology, and the Gordon Research Conference (Angiotensin). In the ISH Asia Pacific Regional Advisory Group and is the Chair of the public relations committee of the ISH 2022 conference.

Dr Schiffrin is a past President of the Canadian Hypertension Society and Hypertension Canada, past chair of the American Heart Association Hypertension Council, and a past president of the International Society of Hypertension (ISH). Dr Schiffrin received the 2021 ISH Franz Volhard Award and the 2021 Distinguished Scientist of the American Heart Association.
